Who we are
We are a group of citizens concerned about the unbridled real estate and touristic developments in the municipality of Grândola.
In 2021 we founded Proteger Grândola -Associação de Defesa do Ambiente, an independent nonprofit organisation.

What motivates us – our Manifesto
- We have an obligation to care for what we hold in trust for future generations.
- We need to learn from our mistakes and avoid their re-occurrence.
- We are unable to remain silent when faced with the destruction of the landscape, existing ecosystems and the cultural and social equilibria of Grândola.
- We have a duty to protect the natural assets of our “serra” and our coastline, the flora and fauna, especially the cork trees and pine trees as well as the local culture and traditions.
- We know that our unique environment, which is what attracts so many outsiders, must be treated with due respect, whilst promoting progress through sustainable development bringing employment and well-being to the local population.
